It’s no secret that cybersecurity threats are on the rise.

So, what’s the best way to protect everything you store online? Well, with 43% of all breaches happening as a result of insider errors (another way of saying when a team member makes a mistake and accidentally compromises information), doing all you can to improve their cybersecurity knowledge is a great place to start.

Wondering how you can do this without breaking the bank? You’ll be glad to know you don’t have to spend a lot to give your team a good basic understanding of how to protect business information.

Here are three cost-effective ways to train everyone in the business on how to become the first line of defence against cyberthreats.

1. Free online training courses

Cyber Security by EdApp

First up is a course that focuses on explaining the importance of cybersecurity and how much attacks can cost. Covering everything from outlining the most common cyberthreats to showing real-world scenarios, it’s great for teaching your team how to spot attacks and what to do if they happen – all in eight bite-sized lessons.

Cybersecurity Basics, by edX

This next course helps to explain how cyberthreats are changing, after sharing the history of cybersecurity. It also discusses why cyberattacks happen. It could take your team’s knowledge to the next level, as it gives an overview of the different kinds of unauthorised attacks and the tools you can use to defend against them. This course takes four weeks to compete.

Improve your Online Business Security by Google

Third on our list is a course that shines a light on the importance of privacy and security. Through videos, it can teach your team how to secure devices (like laptops and phones), along with software, networks and cloud security systems to reduce the risk of anything being compromised. Even better, it’s quick and easy to complete, as it only takes an hour from start to finish.

Be a Scam Scanner

The last training course on our list takes your team through the different types of cyberattacks and teaches them how to react under pressure. By the end of the course, your whole team should feel like expert ‘scam scanners’ to help protect your business.

2. Free government resources

Once your team has finished with the free training courses, next should be government resources.

The EU Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA)

If you’re based within the European Union, ENISA offers the government resources for you. Designed to help businesses prepare for future cyber challenges, it works closely with EU Member States to share advice and solutions for improving cybersecurity.

By publishing useful videos and webinars online, ENISA shares all sorts of helpful cybersecurity information about – from dos and don’ts of cyber-hygiene to cybersecurity skills. It also has a section on threat and risk management, which can help your team prepare for current and emerging security threats, as well as sharing steps to help you prepare if an attack happens.

3. Free cybersecurity podcasts

If your team like learning while on-the-go, then podcasts can be great. They can stay up to date with the latest changes in cybersecurity – and there are a few series to choose from.

Smashing Security

Focusing on fun and function in the digital security sphere, the show seamlessly blends informative cybersecurity news and useful educational snippets.

Security Now

This podcast covers many cybersecurity topics like malware, data privacy, and device security. The hosts talk about these subjects clearly without using a lot of jargon.

Malicious Life
